What Is an AI Detector?
An AI detector is a text-analysis tool that estimates whether a passage contains patterns commonly associated with AI-generated writing.
It does not recover the identity of the author or inspect a hidden label inside the text. Instead, an AI text detector studies statistical and stylistic features, then reports how strongly the sample resembles writing in its training data. That distinction matters: a high score is a reason to review the context, not automatic proof that a person used AI.
How AI Text Detection Works
HumanizeText uses a self-hosted English classifier trained on human and machine-written examples. Long submissions are divided into readable passages, each passage is analyzed independently, and the final probability is weighted by passage length. Supporting writing signals explain features in the draft without treating one word or phrase as proof.
Sentence rhythm
AI-generated drafts often maintain unusually even sentence lengths and structures. The detector measures how much the rhythm varies across the sample.
Vocabulary patterns
Repeated terms, generic wording, and a narrow lexical range can contribute to an AI signal, although topic and reading level also affect vocabulary.
Formulaic transitions
Frequent phrases such as ‘furthermore’ or ‘in conclusion’ may indicate templated writing when they appear alongside other predictable patterns.
Punctuation and structure
Paragraph length, punctuation variety, and repeated sentence openings help show whether a draft follows an unusually uniform template.

What an AI Detector Cannot Prove
AI detection is a classification problem, not an authorship test. Results can change after ordinary editing, and detectors may misclassify concise business writing, technical explanations, formulaic assignments, or work by non-native English writers. Different tools also use different training data and thresholds, so their scores may disagree.
For education, hiring, publishing, and other high-impact decisions, treat the result as a prompt for further review. A responsible process considers the writer’s evidence and workflow alongside automated signals.

What is an AI detector?
An AI detector estimates whether a text contains patterns associated with machine-generated writing. It compares features such as sentence predictability, vocabulary, rhythm, and structure. The result is a probability or signal score, not proof of authorship.
How accurate is an AI text detector?
Accuracy varies by model, text length, language, writing genre, and the amount of editing. Short passages and highly structured human writing are especially difficult to classify. Use the score as one piece of evidence, never as the only decision.
Can the detector identify ChatGPT text?
It can flag patterns found in writing produced by ChatGPT and other language models, but no detector can reliably identify every model or heavily edited passage. New models and different prompts also change detection performance.
How much text should I check?
Use at least 80 words when possible. The tool accepts a minimum of 30 words, but longer, continuous samples usually provide more meaningful signals than a title or single sentence.
Does HumanizeText store the text I check?
HumanizeText does not save detector submissions to its application database. When the optional model service is enabled, processing is also subject to that service’s privacy and retention configuration.
Should an AI detector be used to accuse a writer?
No. False positives happen, including with original human writing and non-native English. Review drafts, sources, document history, citations, and the writer’s process before reaching a conclusion.
